TO THE SLEEPING SOLDIER

FOR JOVICA GUROVIĆ

Had that moment lasted forever,
we would still be taming the darkness,
our youth would not have been carried off by shadows,
nor would a single instant have taken you from us.

Dream on, young boy, sleeping warrior,
your dreaming eyes still speak of you...
Now, both miles away and painfully near,
the swollen rivers
of our childhood remain.

May the years behind us
be forgiven,
and all the unrest woven
through our childhood games,
while curled-up tears remember
that broken hearts still live...

Where you are,
all borders disappear.
